May 8th Magee Marsh Field trip with Dea and Francie
Join expert birder Dea Armstrong and Michigan Avian Experience's Director Francie Krawcke for a mid week migration visit to Magee Marsh in Ohio. Located on the Lake Erie's south shore, Magee Marsh is the perfect stop over spot for migrating songbirds. Dea will teach you how to bird this warbler mecca during the height of bird migration but during a lower human count time. We will be meeting at the park and ride at Plymouth and 23 in Ann Arbor at 6:15 am. Bring warm cloths and a lunch. Be prepared to birds all day! $45
ORNITHOLOGY:AN IN-DEPTH STUDY OF BIRDS
ORNITHOLOGY: AN IN-DEPTH STUDY OF BIRDS is a great course for novice and intermediate birders alike. It is also a wonderful place for photographers to learn more about their subjects.
We have “streamlined” the original class but it still covers topics including anatomy, physiology, migration, song and flight in the Tuesday evening lectures. Saturday field trips are filled with bird identification, behavior observations and tips on how to find those birds you seek. We usually travel by carpool to our field trip sites.
The class consists of 4 weeks of Tuesday evening lectures, 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM, in the community room at the Ann Arbor REI and Saturday morning field trips, beginning on April 3. Most field trips begin at 8 AM. We try to end as close to noon as possible. Sometimes everyone may not make it to all the classes and field trips. We definitely understand and will do our best to be be sure you can makeup any topics you miss.
As in previous years, the class size will be limited to 20 individuals. We have sold out for 4 years in a row so registering as early as you can is advisable
