Pre-school Owl Adventures

Everyone loves owls! But how often do you get a chance to study one in the wild. With their nocturnal habits and camouflage coloring they are nearly impossible to see. Now is your chance to get your eyes on owls. Three will visit, connect, enchant, and educate participants during an up-close visit. Classification, conservation, and survival techniques are just a few of the topics we will explore by observing live birds. Community and sporting events Perfect for that event were folks can wander at their own pace. Your audience will have the opportunity for a personal encounter with at least three native Michigan birds of prey. 60 minute minimum, 4 hours max.
Michigan Birds of Prey
Survival at its finest. Three engaging birds of prey like a hawk, owl, eagle or falcon will visit your site to reveal their remarkable survival adaptations and behaviors. Visitors will have the opportunity to feel feathers, and explore skulls, and other bird parts like feet and bones. Programs are planned and presented with age and experience of the audience in mind. Avian Flight Adaptations
Flight, while it appears a miracle, has some simple science behind the action. Observe the adaptations of three natural hunters. Watch a red-tailed hawk fly cross your field, gym or auditorium and see adaptations in play. We will focus on physical structures, feather types and wing shapes that allow these raptors survive in the wild. Physics in Flight
Get your students outside to see Newtonian Physics in action while watching birds fly. Two raptors will fly over your field or football stadium to demonstrate the physics of motion principles. Students will participate in actual field study practices by using velocity guns, tape measures, and stopwatches, to gather data. To extend the experience, MAE will provide follow up lessons to help student’s transition the experience into the classroom. Note: Programs for grades 6 through 8 require the presence of adult volunteers.
